Two senior officials from Wrexham Maelor Hospital have lent their support to a charity event for people with prostate cancer in the area.

Professor Iqbal Shergill, specialist in urology, and Iwan Bonds, head of renal services, have joined forces with Clays Golf to announce that they will be hosting a charity golf day in June.

The event was organized by Wrexham Prostate Cancer Support Group which aims to raise funds to purchase specialist equipment to treat people with prostate cancer in the area.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday June 8th and they are looking to attract 144 golfers in teams of four to participate. The cost is £35 per person and includes a two-course meal at the end of the game.

Professor Shergill said: “We are grateful to Clays Golf and their Managing Director Josh Green for their support and through their website tee times and payment can be confirmed.

“For more information about the event, in particular sponsorship opportunities, please call Phil Jones on 07525-824-679 or email [email protected]

Malcom Williams, chairman of the local support group and member of Clays, added: “We are at an advanced stage in raising funds to purchase a cryotherapy machine and we hope that with the help of the event we can we’re getting closer to the £60,000 needed to buy this.

“This technology is a non-invasive way to treat recurring prostate cancer cells and uses extreme cold to destroy cancer cells.”
