Lung cancer nurses in Teesside win Nursing Times Award


A TEAM of Macmillan thoracic nurses working in the community to help reduce the time patients spend in hospital won a Nursing Times Award (NTA) for their efforts.

Thanks to a grant from Macmillan Cancer Support, the nurses, who are based at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, visited patients’ homes after their operations to provide specialist nursing care as well as emotional and psychological support. .

After the awards ceremony in London, Macmillan Thoracic Nurse Hayley McNaught said: “We’re over the moon to win the NTA for the surgical category, it was a great privilege to take the stage for the to recover. ”

Stacey Stockdale, Macmillan Thoracic Nurse, added: “I am incredibly proud of everything the team, including Macmillan Thoracic Nurse Leanne Connelly and Rachel Calvert, has accomplished over the past year and I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of it.

“Winning a national award like this is the icing on the cake. ”
