Oncology nurses will travel to Irvine for a roadshow

Residents should benefit from free advice on how to detect cancer while touring Irvine.

To celebrate Cancer Research UK’s 20th anniversary, nurses will be offering free walk-in counseling across the city; no appointment necessary.

Throughout the summer, nurses Christine Campbell and Darragh Casey from Cancer Research UK will be offering free advice on prevention and early detection at the Rivergate Mall.

The first session will take place on Tuesday July 19 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. They will return to the same location on Tuesday, September 6.

Darragh Casey, Cancer Research UK’s Cancer Awareness Nurse in Scotland, said: ‘Around 4 in 10 cases of cancer could be prevented each year in the UK, largely through changes such as stopping smoking and maintaining a healthy weight.

“By returning to the same location, we are able to provide ongoing support, and people we have met can come back and let us know how they are doing or ask for additional help and signage. Conversations and support like this are more vital than ever as COVID-19 has disrupted cancer services.

“We’re here to help and look forward to talking to many people across Scotland about the steps they can take to help reduce their risk of cancer.”

“If you smoke, quitting is the best thing you can do for your health.”
