Supporting cancer patients through body, mind and spirit – CBS Miami
A cancer diagnosis can be devastating for the mind, body and spirit. Major challenges can arise for patients and their families. Support Services at the Memorial Cancer Institute in South Florida provide comprehensive and compassionate care to patients before, during and after their treatment.
A Patient Navigator helps each patient through their cancer treatment, including questions about treatments and side effects. The Patient Navigator will also coordinate appointments, tests, biopsies and procedures, as well as relay this information between the patient’s healthcare providers to ensure everyone is on the same page. It is a team effort.
Access to Memorial’s Rapid-Care Clinic provides patients with assistance when concerns arise via telehealth for non-life-threatening cancer-related symptoms to avoid an emergency room visit. A cancer specialist will be available to talk to each patient about their symptoms and let them know if further medical care is needed. A helping hand is always nearby.
Cancer can place many demands on the body and the mind, but the mind is also very important. Memorial’s interfaith chaplains can guide patients and families through cancer treatment to help heal mind and soul.
The physical changes due to cancer treatment and therapy can be emotional for patients. The Memorial Cancer Institute offers a salon and boutique to improve a patient’s appearance and self-esteem. These services and products include the selection / fitting of wigs, specialty clothing, spa services and skin care.
During and after treatment, the Memorial Cancer Institute continues to help patients. A personalized cancer rehabilitation program at Memorial Rehabilitation Institute helps patients regain strength to continue treatment or to achieve and achieve their highest level of function to continue living productive and enriched lives.
Patients and families can count on the guidance and support of the Memorial Cancer Institute to provide a hopeful experience on their journey to survival.
